This was my final project completed for THR 331 Drafting and Modeling. We were given the Vectorworks file of the Moxie Theater in San Diego to design within. It was chosen intentionally as a challenge for designing due to its compact and offset stage area.
The setting of this play is slowly revealed to be a purgatory like world. Each of the three charcaters has an associated empty fireplace and some sort of chair or seating. I wanted to emphasize the offputting and unsettling feeling of the world by creating a familiar-seeming environment using odd and misaligned structures. The color palette was intentionally selected to be bleak and disonant I sketched this on paper originally, and used those initial sketches to create a scale model in cardstock. I measured the edges and angles of each panel of the wall and created an .svg file for each panel. I uploaded those to my preferred 3d modeling software and rotated them into alignment to match the original paper model. I took these .stl files into Vectorworks to create the floor plan and digital rendering.
