For me, costume design is for the actors. The transformation that occurs when a performer becomes their character is an unparalleled experience. The audience recieves the best version of a performance when the performer feels that they can truly embody their character. I see it as my duty to find the core of a character, informed by dramaturgy and discoveries the rehearsal process, and bring the best version of that character to the stage.
