Assistant set designed for the Ghostlight Player's 2022 production of Sarah Ruhl's Eurydice. This show was directed by Marty Bernier.
The script described an old club or music venue and the presence of the elevator gave us the opportunity to take advantage of levels on stage. The elevator door was originally concepted to be two panels with a more intricate and symbolic design, but had to be simplified. The Room of String also underwent conceptual changes as production began. We decided it would be best to take advantage of the stage area to create this 'room'.
I was responsible for the elevator door and the "Room of String". There is a long scene in the play where Eurydice and her father create a constructed space out of string. I was responsible for figuring out how to achieve this effect. We achieved this by hiding multiple small spools of extra thick yarn behind the stage that Eurydice and her father could unravel onto hooks attached to the vertical metal pipes. The specific pattern was inspired by the same art deco references as the elevator door.
